Research Associate (Postdoc) on Radiation and Climate with the option to pursue a habilitation (postdoctoral qualification for professorship) § 28 Subsection 2 HmbHG

Your responsibilities

Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.

The position comes with a teaching responsibility of 4h/week. It is intended for someone aiming for a career in academia and offers the possibility to obtain a habilitation, prerequisite for professorships in Germany.


Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.

You should have a strong research profile in radiative transfer modeling, climate physics of Earth or other planets, or satellite remote sensing of water vapor and clouds. You are expected to make substantial contributions to the radiative transfer simulator ARTS, to radiation-focused experiments with the climate model ICON or simpler conceptual models, or to the scientifc exploitation of the FORUM and EarthCARE satellite mission.
