Research Associate (Postdoc) Digitalisation in Education and Learning Sciences § 28 Subsection 2 HmbHG

Your responsibilities

Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.

The advertised position is located at the chair of Digitalisation in Education at the Faculty of Education. In our working group, we deal with educational science issues, especially related to teaching and learning with and through digital technologies. The main topics in the working group include digital support and facilitation of social learning processes, discourse and dialogue in education, (evidence-based) teacher training, the teaching and analysis of digital literacy and the ‘twin transformation’ (i. e. the combination of the digital transformation and sustainability development related to education).

In detail, the area of responsibility for the advertised position includes

  • independently conducting research projects in educational sciences with a focus on teaching and learning research in one or more of the working group's main topics
  • development of research projects related to learning support with digital technologies as well as the supervision and counselling of doctoral students
  • methodological developments for analysing teaching and learning processes and supporting them with technological developments (e.g.: complex collection and analysis of multimodal data, use of VR/AR to support and research educational processes, use of educational technologies based on LLM/generative AI)
  • publishing educational research results from the range of topics covered by the department in (international) scientific journals and conferences
  • participation in the preparation of research proposals in the research area
  • organisational tasks in the department and/or in academic self-administration
  • teaching courses (5 hours per week) with an educational science focus as part of the degree programs offered at the faculty
  • supervision of final theses, student assistants and interns

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.

You will need to fulfil the following requirements:

  • a university degree, plus doctorate with above-average results in educational science, psychology or a related subject
  • deep knowledge and practical experience in the field of quantitative research methods
  • experience in conducting research in educational science (or related subjects), especially in the context of at least one of the specialisations of the working group
  • interest in educational science issues in one or more of the specialisations of the working group
  • publications in (international) journals on research results in educational science (or related subjects)
  • a goal-oriented, reliable and independent way of working and the ability to work in a team
  • experience in the organisation of university courses
  • very good language skills in English and German
