The Faculty of Humanities invites applications for the position of a Professor of Anthropological Studies in Culture and History. The professorship focuses on gender and queer anthropology in research, the stabilization, or rebalancing of social inequalities along a range of social categories from a historicizing and contemporary perspective.

Teaching requires relevant contributions across the whole of the subject, as well as in gender and queer anthropological research in terms of theory, content, and methods as required by the Bachelor and Masters of Arts in Empirical Cultural Studies curricula. We expect research-oriented teaching and innovative teaching concepts from a historicizing and contemporary perspective. A general willingness to conduct interdisciplinary and knowledge exchange-oriented teaching formats, the integration of research and teaching with knowledge exchange–activities, and participation in cross-cutting issues of digitalization and sustainability are desired.

We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding academic track record and research experience in the professorship field.

The applicant is expected to have outstanding qualifications and contributions in at least one of the two theoretical fields of gender or queer anthropology as well as in one of the central topics of gender and queer research in empirical cultural studies: protest and political activism, populism, forms of violence, migration, body politics, care, gender-appropriate futures, decolonization, which may also apply in the intersection with the anthropology of political and legal anthropology. Applicants are required to have relevant, international publications in the field of empirical cultural studies or in the field of gender and queer anthropology research, as well as experiences and success in acquiring and conducting third-party-funded projects. Experience in managing staff and academic self-governance is desirable. In addition, a general willingness to engage in interdisciplinary and knowledge exchange-oriented research and teaching is also expected.
