Research Associate Science Management and Communication § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

Your responsibilities

Duties primarily include research. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

The Hub of Computing and Data Science (HCDS) is a competence unit in research and serves as the core element for centrally supporting digitalization and digital transformation of and in research. A key aspect of its mission is the systematic management of scientific collaborations within and beyond the University of Hamburg. The responsibilities include, in particular, the following tasks:

  • supporting and executing scientific project management for interdisciplinary cooperation projects within HCDS
  • providing visualizations to support HCDS projects in science communication, dissemination, and application in research contexts
  • developing communication design for user-friendly interfaces within HCDS and offering consultation for related projects
  • identifying research achievements and topics of project partners within HCDS and preparing them in a target-group-specific manner for internal and external representation
  • creating, implementing, and independently managing target-group-specific communication formats and channels (both analog and digital), in collaboration with the central communications department of the University of Hamburg
  • developing, coordinating, and continuously organizing events, as well as representing HCDS at relevant events in the metropolitan region and on a national level
  • further developing, organizing, and maintaining the HCDS web presence on an ongoing basis

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field.

University degree (Master’s or equivalent), e.g., in Science Management, Public Administration, or Science Communication

  • proven knowledge in project management, concept development, coordination, and implementation in cooperation with various partners and stakeholders, with a focus on computer science
  • strong knowledge of the German academic system as well as the structure and functions of a university or research institution, with a focus on the metropolitan region of Hamburg
  • several years of relevant and proven professional experience in the development and implementation of internal and external communication measures in the context of science communication
  • extensive experience in strategic planning and execution of target-group-specific texts and social media content
  • experience in using and applying CMS systems
  • experience in designing presentations, flyers, posters, and other communication materials
  • excellent proficiency in German and English (spoken and written)
  • strong skills in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as in common design and production software (Adobe, Affinity, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro)
  • highly independent work style with a strong service orientation
  • ability to mediate between various interest groups and stakeholders, as well as experience in interdisciplinary and intercultural project structures
  • high level of communication skills, quick comprehension, and strong organizational abilities
  • strong commitment and excellent teamwork skills
  • efficient and structured working style with excellent time management skills
