Start date: 01.04.2026, fixed for a period of three years (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate’s achievements during the first stage. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 HmbHG.

Scope of work: full-time position suitable for part-time
Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.
The candidate will work in the Computer Vision group and do research on state-of-the-art questions in Computer Vision with Machine Learning methods, especially Deep Learning Models. We are looking for someone to continue our current research in the field of sign language recognition and extend it to topics such as gesture and action recognition or human behavior recognition. The position includes the joint supervision of PhD and master students, the participation in research projects of the group, and the responsibility to teach 4 hours/week in the computer science department.
A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.
Doctorate e.g., in computer science, engineering, mathematics, etc. Knowledge of computer vision/image processing and machine learning, especially deep learning. Knowledge of action recognition or sign language recognition is helpful, as well as knowledge of attention modeling. Good programming skills, preferably in Python. Fluent English, spoken and written, and good communication skills are mandatory. Knowledge of German is helpful but not mandatory. Furthermore, the candidate should have a very good publication record at well-known conferences/journals and should be able to work self-organized.
