Research Associate for the Project “Social Constructions of Climate Moods” § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

The Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society” (CLICCS) investigates climate dynamics and climate-related social dynamics, as well as the interactions between the two. To this end, we are looking for colleagues from a wide range of disciplines, including the natural sciences as well as the social sciences. Your responsibilities

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue further academic qualifications outside of their work responsibilities. They may also pursue doctoral studies outside of working duties.

Doctoral candidates are members of the structured doctoral program of the School of Integrated Climate and Earth System Sciences (SICSS), which provides high-quality, interdisciplinary, and internationally oriented training.

  • conducting studies of social media content related to contested issues in the context of mitigating and adapting to climate change with a focus on patterns and dynamics of climate moods

Especially:

  • designing and conducting automated and manual (multimodal) quantitative and qualitative content analyses
  • (co-)authoring articles to be published in international academic journals, presenting research at international conferences
  • contributing to collaborative research in the DFG cluster of excellence CLICCS

The research associate may also support teaching or MA student supervision if related to the research project and engage more broadly in the academic life at the cluster of excellence and in climate-related communication and media research in the social sciences at University of Hamburg.


Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field.

Expected: an above average MA degree in communication science or a related social science field; research experience in computational social sciences (esp. automated media content analysis and/or social media analysis), excellent knowledge of English, working knowledge of German, skills in empirical social science methods and programming in R/Python, ability and willingness to proactively work in an interdisciplinary team.
